The MoDOT Commitment
MoDOT is committed to increasing the number of minority, female and economically disadvantaged individuals working on the kcICON project. Up to $1.25 million has been designated for training programs and contractor incentives as part of this project.
Community roundtable meetings attended by MoDOT, Federal Highway Administration, Mid-America Regional Council, short-listed project teams, local contractors and union representatives, minority contractors and community groups, were held throughout 2007. The roundtable partners agreed to a Workforce Utilization Partnering Agreement August 13, 2007, that will increase the number of socially and economically disadvantaged individuals trained for work on the kcICON project.
A Workforce Utilization Advisory Committee was formed to draft a Request For Proposal to identify pre-apprenticeship training programs, and in December 2007, the committee recommended Full Employment Council to produce trainees ready for highway construction apprenticeships.
Workforce Efforts
The kcICON Project participates in an On-The-Job training program, offering minorities, women, and economically disadvantaged individuals a chance to learn a trade and earn a career in heavy construction.
Here is more information about what the project team is doing to diversify its workforce; including a list of Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) and profiles of three on-the-job trainees working on the kcICON Project.
